Generate funds for taxpayer essentials by driving energy savings
Local and state government agencies spend more than $10 billion a year on energy, according to the EPA. Municipalities spend about $4 billion per year on energy to treat water. Nearly one-third of the energy used to run typical government buildings can be conserved. Reduction in the waste in energy spending means more money for infrastructure and other essential upgrades or more money returned back to the taxpayers. According to recent data, investment by federal agencies in energy-saving projects from 2003 to 2007 helped cut total energy use by 8% and a savings of nearly $500 million in 2007.
Recognizing the importance of energy reduction, the Federal Government has instituted a series of measures which require that agencies report and reduce energy intensity at the facilities where they pay utility bills. These include:
- EO 13514 which requires that all new federal buildings must be designed to achieve “zero net energy”
- EPACT 2005 requires federal agencies to reduce energy intensity every year in their facilities by 2 percent per year beginning in FY 2006 or the
- Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA).
Key to driving savings with energy reduction or meeting federal energy reduction requirements is the visibility into your energy cost drivers.
Identify the opportunity to reduce energy spending with real-time monitoring
Noveda's energy management solutions provide a 360° view of consumption patterns. Leveraging our real-time monitoring data, customers can uncover the source of energy waste and gauge the impact of actions taken to eliminate waste.
Real-time monitoring can also be used to optimize water use and prevent water leakage. A key driver for water management is the nexus between water and energy i.e. conservation in water use also leads to reduced energy bills. Similar to mandates for energy reduction, EO 13423 requires that Federal agencies reduce water consumption intensity through life-effective measures. Once again, to manage water use, you need to measure what you are using right now.
Noveda can help you meet your energy and water reduction targets and requirements
Our actionable intelligence will help you reduce your energy spending and optimize your investment in infrastructure upgrades, in a variety of ways:
- With EnergyFlow, customers monitor multiple energy sources (electric, gas, steam, oil, heating, cooling) from one dashboard, adjust settings to reflect occupancy and weather patterns, avoid demand peaks, and catch billing errors.
- EnergyFlow CXL (Capex Lens) is used to identify energy waste on a load-by-load. Customers use the sub-metering with CXL to track return on capex, and for measurement & verification (M&V) credits for LEED certification.
- PortfolioTracker enables customers to monitor energy consumption across multiple buildings from a single dashboard. The information is normalized for variables such as square footage to enable prioritizing of energy efficiency investments, aggregation of energy consumption across properties to negotiate better pricing.
- SunFlow Monitor to maximize your investment in renewable energy such as solar PV/wind or geothermal.
Noveda solutions can help you improve your communication and reporting
All levels of government are keenly aware of the need for transparency - particularly when it comes to taxpayer dollars. But reduced staffing levels, budget constraints and the regulatory environment make this a struggle. Noveda’s social media-based platforms, web widgets and competitions enable you to communicate your sustainability achievements to your stakeholders, in real-time. In addition, we can generate the reports to meet any regulatory requirements.
